Despite withdrawing from the presidential race in early March, former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley captured a notable share of the vote in Pennsylvania’s Republican primary on Tuesday.
According to unofficial results, Trump secured 83.4 percent of Pennsylvania’s Republican votes. However, Haley took home 16.5 percent of the GOP votes statewide despite her early March exit from the race.
In Bucks County, Trump’s earned 79.3 percent of the GOP vote, while Haley received 18.7 percent.
Trump’s performance in Bucks County has historically been weaker. He lost the county in both the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections.
In Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery counties, Haley gained more than percent of the GOP vote, according to unofficial results.
Trump won the primary races and is the Republican’s presumptive nominee.
Key battlegrounds, like Arizona and Wisconsin, showed more than 20 percent of GOP voters backing non-Trump candidates, which could be indicative of broader concerns within the party, according to news organization Axios.
On the Democratic side, President Joe Biden won 93.1 percent of his party’s votes in Pennsylvania. Despite also facing opposition from within his party, particularly concerning his handling of the Israel-Hamas conflict, Biden’s challenges appear more contained compared to Trump’s.
Former Democratic presidential candidate Dean Phillips garnered 6.8 percent of the Democratic vote statewide, with 4.9 percent in Bucks County.
Haley refrained from endorsing Trump following her campaign suspension.
Both the Biden and Trump campaigns view Pennsylvania and particularly Bucks County as crucial battlegrounds for the upcoming November election.
