In a borough known for its vibrant arts scene and inclusive legacy, The Cub Room stands as a reminder of New Hope Borough’s past that featured several LGBTQ+ bars.

As Laura Sachs steps into the ownership role, the establishment carries not just the weight of a business, but the legacy of a gathering place for the LGBTQ+ community and its allies.

The Cub Room has focused on making sure it is a welcoming place for the LGBTQ+ community after the closure of The Raven in 2019.

The area was once home to four gay bars, but they closed over the years as acceptance became more widespread.

“New Hope is a close family and has been there to support me during challenging times, and to celebrate my success. It is important that I give back as well as maintain the historical importance of New Hope as an accepting, caring and inclusive community,” Sachs said.

The Cub Room offers a unique blend of intimacy and openness at its space at The New Hope Lodge on West Bridge Street.

Inside, specialty cocktails and carefully crafted menus create an inviting atmosphere. Outside, a deck, fire pits, and blankets foster a sense of warmth. In the summer months, the outdoor bar and pool area become popular.

Sachs said the bar will feature local performers and the beloved piano bar featuring Liz DuFour and Bob Egan.

The 2020 closure of The Cub Room and subsequent 2023 reopening after renovations marked a period of change for the establishment.

“I am so excited to be part of the New Hope family and to continue New Hope’s legacy of providing a warm, inclusive and fun place for all,” stated Sachs.
