The Lambertville Free Public Library will close for two months for lead paint remediation and interior updates, officials announced.
The library, which is located in the historic Lilly Mansion at 6 Lilly Street, will close on starting March 31 and reopen in early June with fresh paint, new carpeting and furniture, the library announced.
“The interior of the library is going to be freshened up,” Mayor Andrew Nowick said at a recent City Council meeting. “They’re going to do some painting in the library, replace some carpeting, add new furniture.”
The closure comes ahead of the library’s yearlong 100th anniversary celebration, which begins in June, according to the library’s website.
During the closure, a pop-up library will open April 4 at Lambertville City Hall at 18 York Street. Hours for the pop-up library are to be determined.
The pop-up library will offer at least one public computer, a printer and copier for small jobs, and a limited selection of books and magazines for checkout.
E-books and audiobooks will remain available through the Hoopla and CloudLibrary apps.
Children’s “Bouncy Book Time” and Mah Jongg programs will be held at the ACME Screening Room on South Union Street.
The library is seeking community assistance to reduce its book inventory before the closure. Residents are invited to check out as many books as they like during the week of March 24. Book returns will increase the pop-up libraryโs selection.
Volunteers are also needed to help pack books. Those interested can email staff@lambertvillelibrary.org.
A community thank-you party is scheduled for Saturday, March 29, from noon to 2 p.m. at the library.
Regular updates will be posted on the library’s website and distributed through the libraryโs e-newsletter, the mayor’s newsletter, and social media.
