Speed limit changes in the heart of the City of Lambertville received a green light from the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT).
The NJDOT approved a speed limit reduction on two streets.
Mount Hope Street’s speed limit will be 25 MPH. The new speed limit will extend out until Route NJ 179, per Lambertville city council’s meeting agenda.
The speed limit on Knob Road will also be reduced to 25 miles per hour. However, between the section of Knob Road that borders of the City of Lamberrtville’s business district and West Amwell Township, the speed limit will only be reduced to 35 miles per hour.
The speed limit changes are considered a standard traffic regulation order conducted by NJDOT and is the aftermath of several pedestrian safety studies that were conducted over the summer, per previous reporting by the New Hope Free Press.
NJDOT and the city collaborated for these studies.
The premise of the studies was to make Lambertville a safer, more walkable city, and to combat speeding after the city received several complaints, officials said.
One of the more popular tourist towns in Central New Jersey, the city is prone to experiencing traffic and speeding, especially during the weekends and summer months. During high-traffic occasions, residents have said it can be tough for residents to walk around.
The safety study also considered bicyclists and what was best for them.
