Two people face thousands of dollars in fines and possible jail time after Pennsylvania Game Commission wardens discovered they illegally killed 10 deer in Central Bucks County.
Pennsylvania Game Commission wardens received a tip through the Operation Game Thief hotline in early December about possible poaching near Doylestown.
An investigation led them to a property with numerous illegal bait sites, according to the Pennsylvania Game Commission.
After several attempts, wardens apprehended the suspects and determined they had killed an 11-point buck, a 7-point buck, a 4-point buck, a 3-point buck, a spike buck and five antlerless deer, authorities said.
The deer were taken to multiple processors and tagged with other hunters’ licenses in an attempt to conceal the crimes, authorities said.
The suspects confessed when confronted with the evidence, according to the Pennsylvania Game Commission.
The two hunters, who were not named, were charged with 36 violations of the state game and wildlife code. They face maximum penalties of $20,500 and up to a year in prison.
The Pennsylvania Game Commission credited the Operation Game Thief program for the charges. The program encourages reporting of wildlife crimes. The hotline is available 24/7 at 1-888-PGC-8001 or online at https://bit.ly/3vIZpM9.
