After more than a year of work, the New Hope-Lambertville Toll-Supported Bridge will reopen to two-way traffic on Friday afternoon, Feb. 14, the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission announced Tuesday.

The bridge, which connects New Hope Borough and the City of Lambertville, has been closed to New Jersey-bound traffic since February 2023 for a comprehensive rehabilitation project.

The closure was initially expected to be shorter, but it was extended into 2025 after the discovery of a deteriorated structural connection last August. That connection was replaced during a 10-day full bridge closure in mid-January.

The contractor, Anselmi & DeCicco, Inc., and its subcontractors have spent recent weeks demobilizing equipment and completing tasks delayed by the structural issue.

The reopening comes just in time for Valentine’s Day evening and the Presidents’ Day holiday weekend in the tourist communities.

The reopening doesn’t mark the end of all construction, according to bridge officials.

Starting Tuesday, Feb. 18, off-peak, single-lane alternating traffic will be in place weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to allow crews to complete remaining work. The single-lane restrictions will be limited to one of the bridge’s six truss spans at a time and controlled by flaggers.

The single-lane restrictions are expected to last up to three weeks while crews remove temporary construction platforms, complete architectural lighting installation and make necessary adjustments, and apply touch-up paint, officials said.

“Punch-list” work, including further testing and calibration of the bridge’s architectural lighting system, will follow.

All project work is expected to be completed this spring.

A formal rededication ceremony for the bridge is planned for the spring.
