The New Hope-Lambertville Toll-Supported Bridge reopened to Pennsylvania-bound vehicular traffic on Thursday, according to the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission.

The bridge welcomed the first vehicles to cross since its closure last Monday at approximately 12:15 p.m. Thursday.

While Pennsylvania-bound lanes are now open, a detour remains for New Jersey-bound traffic via the nearby New Hope-Lambertville (Route 202) Toll Bridge, located one mile north.

The bridge’s pedestrian walkway reopened Wednesday evening.

The bridge that connects New Hope Borough and the City of Lambertville reopened ahead of schedule, with officials initially expecting the reopening to occur early next week.

To assist pedestrians, a courtesy shuttle service continues to operate with a single shuttle running from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Thursday and Friday.

The service will end Friday night at 11 p.m., bridge commission officials said.

Shuttle stops include a New Hope loading/unloading area on the northbound side of North Main Street near park benches by the PNC Bank and Starbucks, and a Lambertville stop on the Pennsylvania-bound side of Bridge Street near the former Black River and Western Railroad crossing and the Princeton Bank building.

The need for the bridge’s closure, which began last Monday, was due to the urgent replacement of a deteriorated cylindrical steel pin, critical for the structural integrity of the bridge’s second span from the Pennsylvania side.

The 120-year-old steel-truss bridge required work to replace the 4-inch-diameter, 18-inch-long pin that linked 13 structural steel members.

Officials anticipate that full two-way traffic on the bridge will resume by mid-February.

Starting last January, the bridge underwent an upgrade project that repainted the span, replaced the walkway, added new lighting, and performed other maintenance.
