The City of Lambertville Parks and Recreation Commission ended 2024 after planting trees at Cavallo, Ely, and Arnett parks.

At Cavallo Park on Mt. Hope Street, officials planted 13 native trees and shrubs on the east, south, and west sides to replace ash trees lost to the Emerald Ash Borer, a destructive beetle.

The Canallo Park trees were funded by the Lower Delaware Wild and Scenic Management Council through the National Park Service.

At Arnett Park on Connaught Hill, the city benefited from the generosity of local residents Jim and Nancy Johnson and Mayor Andrew Nowick, who funded the planting of four trees.

Placed to enhance the park’s aesthetics and usability, the new additions include two trees near the picnic area, one by the playground, and a wild black cherry tree in the open green space.

The commission also responded to community feedback about the lack of shade at Ely Park on North Main Street.

With a donation from Apple TV+, five trees were planted along the south side of the playground.

“These trees will help cool the parks through their shade and respiration, remove pollutants from the air and water, help mitigate flooding, and provide habitat for wildlife,” according to a recent announcement from the city.
