The model and actress who died Friday in a carbon monoxide leak at her daughter and son-in-law’s Solebury Township home is being remembered as an industry icon and inspirational humanitarian.
Dayle Haddon’s death made national headlines and brought a new spotlight to her career that spanned decades and the globe.
“She was a woman in her power, yet soft and attentive to all. Deeply creative and curious, gifted with beauty inside and out. Always kind and thoughtful,” Ryan Haddon, Dayle’s daughter, said in a statement.
Police, firefighters, and medics were called to the property in the 6900 block of Phillips Mill Road at daybreak following a report of a problem. Dayle Haddon, 76, from New York City, was found unresponsive on the second floor of the guest house and was later pronounced dead. Walter J. Blucas, 76, of Erie, was impacted by the leak and was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. He was reported to be in critical condition.
An investigation found that a faulty flue and exhaust pipe in the gas heating system caused the leak, police said.
Dayle Haddon’s career achievements included gracing the covers, including Town and Country, Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Sports Illustrated, and Harper’s Bazaar. Her acting credits feature roles in notable films like “North Dallas Forty” and appearances on CBS News’ morning show.
Beyond the page and screen, Dayle Haddon authored “The Five Principles of Ageless Living” and founded WomenOne, a nonprofit dedicated to educating women and girls globally.

Ryan Haddon said, “She held so many up, saw their greatness sometimes hidden to them, and always built bridges with her own connections to help them ascend. She was everyone’s greatest champion. An inspiration to many.”
Dayle Haddon, who returned to work in her middle age after the death of a husband, continued to break barriers.
In her later years, she persuaded the beauty industry to cater to aging women and became a spokesperson for her generation for a number of big brands, including L’Oréal and Estée Lauder.
Earlier this month, Dayle Haddon spoke on the “Shift Happens” podcast about aging gracefully and finding the gifts each age has to offer.
Over the summer, the model appeared alongside Blake Lively in a Vogue cover shoot directed by Baz Luhrmann.
Dayle Haddon is survived by her grandchildren, daughter, journalist Ryan Haddon, and son-in-law, Marc Blucas, an actor known for his roles in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “The Jane Austen Book Club.” The couple owns the farm property where the incident occurred.
