With a wave of reports of mysterious drone sightings over New Jersey and parts of Bucks County, Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick called for a “classified briefing” from federal authorities.
The Republican lawmaker issued a statement on his website Wednesday on the matter:
“The growing reports of unexplained drone activity in the Philadelphia region and our neighboring state of New Jersey demand immediate and decisive federal action. As Chairman of the National Intelligence Enterprise Subcommittee on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI), I am treating this matter with the urgency it requires and taking proactive steps to safeguard our public safety and national security.
“I am actively coordinating with federal law enforcement agencies and have requested a classified briefing to receive a comprehensive understanding of these incidents. This is not a time for complacency—it is a time for action and accountability.
“While initial briefings indicate no immediate threat to public safety, I take seriously the legitimate concerns of my constituents, our neighbors in New Jersey, and the broader American public. I am calling on our federal agencies to immediately increase resources dedicated to investigating this escalating issue and to deliver a thorough public briefing. Transparency is not optional—it is a necessity. I will continue to push for swift action, full accountability, and clear communication to ensure the safety, security, and peace of mind of our community and our nation. The American people deserve nothing less.
“If you observe any unidentified drone activity or have information related to these sightings, we ask you please report it to the FBI by calling 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324) or submitting photos or details online at tips.fbi.gov.”
The statement from Fitzpatrick comes after articles from NewHopeFreePress.com and other news organizations on sightings recently in Solebury Township. Neighboring Hunterdon County in New Jersey has been a hotbed of sightings.
Kelley Warner, Solebury Township’s chief of police, described the sightings as “abnormal.”
The FBI and other law enforcement agencies have been probing the sightings.
Amid the numerous sightings, officials have said some incidents have turned out to be known aircraft or other known objects.
Fitzpatrick is not the first lawmaker to call for more information from federal authorities. A bipartisan group of members of Congress have issued similar statements in recent days.
Congressman Tom Kean, a Republican who represents Hunterdon County, has demanded more information to be released.
“I am calling for the Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Aviation Administration, and other appropriate federal agencies to deploy greater resources to investigate and address this escalating issue. Additionally, an in-depth public briefing from authorities should take place immediately. The people of New Jersey deserve answers, and I will continue to demand accountability to ensure their rights and security are fully protected,” he said.
Robert Wheeler Jr., a top FBI official, testified Tuesday before a congressional committee that the drone sightings are under investigation.
The FBI official said some of the sightings have been over sensitive government facilities and they are “concerning.”
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy described some of the drones as “sophisticated” and capable of “going dark” after being detected, according to the Washington Times.
Fox 29 interviewed retired U.S. Air Force Major General James Poss, an intelligence and drone expert, this week on the sightings across New Jersey.
The expert said that he does not believe the objects sighted have nefarious intent.
“I would bet you that this is not a drone. I would bet you this is possibly a long clunky name Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing aircraft, otherwise…flying cars,” Poss told the TV station.
