Visitors filled Washington Crossing Historic Park for the rehearsal of the reenactments of Gen. George Washington’s 1776 Delaware River crossing.
The event served as both a rehearsal and a fundraiser and featuring a variety of Colonial-era activities, speeches, and even live cannon fire.
Due to unusually low water levels in the Delaware River, reenactors were unable to complete the crossing by boat as originally planned.
Organizers are looking forward to the main crossing reenactment on Christmas Day, which will be free to the public and will replicate Washington’s daring river crossing The event is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., with organizers advising spectators to arrive by 11:30 a.m. to ensure a good viewing spot.
