Bucks County’s law enforcement community and the county commissioners gathered at the Administration Building in Doylestown Borough on Monday for the annual Project Blue Light wreath lighting ceremony.

The solemn tradition gathers officials to remember law enforcement who have died in the line of duty.

The wreath hung in the county building is adorned with blue lights and white ornaments representing each of the 16 Bucks County officers lost since 1898. It will be illuminated in the third floor of the rotunda throughout the holiday season.

“Lighting this wreath is a simple gesture, but we must not forget that we display it to honor those who gave everything in service to their communities,” said Commissioner Chair Diane Ellis-Marseglia. “I keep my porch light blue during the Christmas season, and I’m proud that for so many years we’ve able to shine blue lights here for all Bucks County residents and visitors to see.”

“As we celebrate the holidays, these families will always have an empty seat at the table and an emptiness in their heart. No matter what they have to celebrate, they will always have that for the rest of their lives due to senseless acts of others,” Bucks County District Attorney Jennifer Schorn said. “So, the fact that this county has this tradition in honoring those that lost their lives is wonderful and I’m so proud to be a part of it.”
