The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission announced Tuesday that the New Hope-Lambertville Toll-Supported Bridge will be closed to vehicle traffic during a number of overnight hours this month.
Vehicular traffic will be halted from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. from Tuesday, Nov. 18, to Thursday, Nov. 21, to allow crews to safely dismantle the temporary overhead containment structure and install newly rehabilitated guide rails along the bridge’s upstream travel lanes, officials said.
The pedestrian walkway will remain open during the overnight closures. However, flaggers will occasionally stop pedestrian traffic for up to 10 minutes at a time to ensure the safe removal of overhead platform sections, officials said.
Pedestrian access has been moved to a temporary walkway on the bridge’s deck since mid-July.
The bridge is scheduled to reopen to Pennsylvania-bound vehicular traffic and uninterrupted pedestrian crossings following the overnight closures.
New Jersey-bound vehicles have been detoured to the Route 202 bridge since early 2024.
The rehabilitation project, which began in late January, is improving the span over the Delaware River between New Hope Borough and the City of Lambertville.
Officials noted that the upcoming overnight closures are not related to the repair work needed for a deteriorated structural connection found several months ago in the bridge.
The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission expects to release a specific schedule later this month for addressing that issue. Traffic impacts are expected for a short time in the new year.
