The sun peeked through towering golden trees shading the New Hope Borough polling station, where hundreds of people lined up early Tuesday to cast their vote.

Constable Frank DeLuca said the turnout has been impressive.

“I’m the constable here (New Hope) and we’ve never had people (lined up) back down to the second parking lot since the last election.”

At 1 p.m., DeLuca said, “We’re about 600 in, which is unbelievable. Normally when it’s not a presidential election, we get maybe like 400 voters for the day..people seem very positive, and they’re excited about what’s about to happen.”

The borough drew the attention of a reporter from Glamour Magazine, Sam Reid, who with a mic in hand, was interviewing voters on the scene.

“Bucks County is always a toss up with PA being a big swing state. I wanted to get a good variety of both people…and get a feel for whether or not reproductive rights is something they care about. This is something Glamor has been covering pre–Roe V. Wade.”

“For us, what’s exceptionally different is that we’re parents now. Four years ago, she (Alison) was just born, and we were shell shocked and I think, you know, keeping a baby alive was challenging enough. Now we understand everything we do is setting an example.”

“This year it feels like our choice is more important than ever.”

Immigration and border security were top concerns for Michael Sarey in New Hope.

“I made up my mind based on the economy, immigration and a whole slew of issues. There’s too many wars going on with the current administration and my opinion from Trump’s prior experience was no wars during his entire administration. Solving these problems will maybe ease the divisiveness.”

Bob Slatcovich disagreed.

He was eager to share his opinion after exiting the polls in New Hope: “Well I’ve been very anxious to vote because I do not want us to have somebody in the white house that is a total disgrace and somebody who is on the verge of being totally insane”

“Well, they’ve all been very important but this one is more important because we have a totally insane person getting close to being in the white house again for a second time.”

“All I know is that we have to have somebody that the world will respect.”

Andrew Landers had his daughters in mind when he showed up to cast his vote.

“It’s an incredibly important election, and I am voting on behalf of my two daughters,” he said. “There’s a whole host of issues that I find are important for this election year, like I said I think women’s rights are top of mind for me again as a father of two daughters. Beyond that, I think there is just a moral imperative of this election.”
