A large brush fire that scorched several acres, destroyed trees, and posed a threat to nearby homes in Solebury Township was extinguished Saturday evening, more than a day after it began.
The fire, which erupted near Winfield Lane and Aquetong Road mid-Friday afternoon, was out following extensive efforts by local and state firefighting teams, Solebury Township police confirmed.
Firefighters from Bucks, Hunterdon, and Mercer counties were called to the scene as the flames were fueled by extremely dry conditions and a strong breeze on Friday.
A variety of resources, including utility vehicles, specialized brush trucks, and large tanker trucks, were deployed to support the firefighters.
To battle the flames in hard-to-reach wooded areas, a tanker car from the New Hope Railroad was repurposed to transport water directly to the front lines.
Trucks brought in construction equipment to help contain the fire and gain access.
The use of drones by county officials played a role in monitoring the spread and aiding the response to the blaze.
The Midway Fire Company reported that fire-damaged trees were crashing down.
Several ambulances, including units from Central Bucks Emergency Services and the Lambertville-New Hope Ambulance and Rescue Squad, were present at the scene.
By Saturday night, roads around the affected area had been cleared and reopened.
