With just weeks until Election Day, Vice President Kamala Harris will make a stop as part of her campaign for president in Upper Makefield Township’s Washington Crossing section.
The stop will take place Wednesday afternoon and evening at Washington Crossing Historic Park, according to multiple sources.
As of Monday evening, details were unclear as to whether the event will be open to the public or a smaller campaign swing. However, Harris is expected to deliver a speech at the historic site.
Allyson Bayless, the Pennsylvania press secretary for the Harris campaign, said she could only confirm that the vice president will be in the Philadelphia area on Wednesday.
Harris’ husband, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, is expected to be at a campaign event a few miles up the Delaware River in the City of Lambertville, New Jersey, on Wednesday, according to his office. A few details on the second gentleman’s stop have been announced, and it is unclear if the couple will meet.
Washington Crossing is where troops crossed the Delaware River on Christmas 1776 before fighting for freedom from the British at the Battle of Trenton. Gen. George Washington crossed the river with his troops, as memorialized in a famous painting.
Republican U.S. Senate candidate Dave McCormick and Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders recently visited the park for an interview with a cable news host.
With President Joe Biden dropping out in late July, Wednesday’s stop would be Harris’ first visit to Bucks County as part of the 2024 campaign.
Bucks County is seen by Democrats and Republicans as a key county to win in order to secure the White House.
Harris’s stop in Upper Makefield Township comes amid tightened security for the presidential candidates, their spouses, and running mates. Local, county, state, and federal law enforcement will be involved, and the U.S. Secret Service has already been making stops at the park, sources said.
Former President Donald Trump is expected to visit Bucks County for a campaign event this coming weekend. Details on the stop have not been announced.
