A section of River Road (Route 32) has reopened after a PennDOT bridge replacement project that started in earlier this year.
On Friday, PennDOT announced the completion of the $965,000 project to replace the aging River Road bridge over a tributary of the Delaware River in Plumstead Township, near the Solebury Township border.
The bridge, which was closed for construction in June, reopened to the public this past Friday.
The project involved replacing the 101-year-old single-span concrete slab bridge with a new 22-foot-wide reinforced concrete box culvert.
Additionally, safety enhancements include a structure-mounted guiderail barrier and approach guiderails, which have been painted brown to blend with the natural surroundings.
The replacement was needed after the previous bridge was damaged by Hurricane Ida in 2021.
In the wake of the hurricane, PennDOT undertook temporary repairs to the state highway and the streambed, which allowed the road to reopen.
The bridge has approximately 2,238 vehicle using it daily, according to PennDOT.
