Former Bucks County GOP Congressman Endorses Kamala Harris

Former Republican Congressman Jim Greenwood of Bucks County has endorsed Democratic candidate Vice President Kamala Harris for the upcoming presidential election.

Greenwood, who once represented the county in the First Congressional District, came out with support for Harris during a virtual press conference last week. The recent announcement echoed his previous backing of Joe Biden in 2020.

Together with former Lancaster County GOP Chairwoman Ann Womble, Greenwood launched “Pennsylvania Republicans for Harris” last week.

The group is looking to coordinate Republican support for Harris in his run against former President Donald Trump.

Both Greenwood and Womble will co-chair the coalition and it will engage in voter outreach efforts, including hosting events, door knocking, phone banking, and coordinating with local Republican groups.

A lifelong Republican, Greenwood criticized Trump as a “conman,” “narcissist,” and cited a “lack of character” that makes him unfit for the presidency.

“I have supported every single Republican candidate for president, from Richard Nixon all the way through to Romney. I made an exception, and continue to make an exception, when it comes to Donald Trump,” Greenwood said.

“I need a president that I’m proud is representing out country,” the former congressman told reporters.

Dr. Andrea Fellerman-Kesack, a Republican from Northeastern Pennsylvania who now lives in the First Congressional District, voiced concerns over Trump’s potential re-election.

She said there is a clear need to steer the Republican Party away from the MAGA movement and back to its conservative roots.

Womble said she is not aligned with Harris on every issue, but she trusts the vice president’s leadership, especially her support for NATO and her ability to find common ground.

“[Donald Trump] is a convicted felon. His aim is to regain presidential power in order to amass power for himself and his allies — this is obvious to anyone with a set of eyes. He cannot be trusted to do what is right for this country because he lacks character and he lacks basic decency,” said Womble.

Greenwood voiced his support for GOP Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick and said he appreciated his moderate stance.

As a previous representative of the district, Greenwood said he would vote for Fitzpatrick despite his previous endorsement from Trump.

When asked, Greenwood stated his opposition to GOP U.S. Senate candidate Dave McCormick due to his support for Trump.

The Harris campaign is reaching out to moderate Republicans and those disillusioned with Trump as part of their election efforts.

The campaign, in a statement, noted that more than 158,000 Republicans in Pennsylvania voted against Trump in the recent GOP primary.

The Trump campaign did not respond to comment on the Pennsylvania Republicans for Harris group.
