Heat, Humidity & Chances Of Severe Storms Wednesday

Just days after a prolonged period of excessive heat plagued the area, the heat and humidity will return on Wednesday, followed by severe weather in the evening.

The latest runs from the GFS model shows that supercell thunderstorms may affect the area around the evening rush hour, with a more organized line of storms reaching the region between 8 p.m. and midnight.

In a Facebook post, The National Weather Service office in Mount Holly, New Jersey said the primary hazards with the storms are damaging winds, “though localized instances of flooding, large hail or a tornado can’t be ruled out.”

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center noted in an outlook that an organized bowing structure could develop with the line of storms, a type of storm structure that accounts for a majority of wind damage not created by tornadoes, according to NOAA.

Although the rain will not amount to much, it is much needed after a dry start to the month of June. The U.S. Drought Monitor currently shows Lower Bucks County as “abnormally dry.”

Ahead of the storms, the area will experience another muggy day.

A Heat Advisory is in effect for Wednesday due to temperatures reaching the mid 90s and high humidity, making the heat index as high as 102 degrees in the afternoon.

Beyond Wednesday, the forecast shows cooler temperatures in the 80s for the remainder of the week with thunderstorm chances returning on Saturday. The cooler temperatures may not last long though, as the National Weather Service has a 40 percent chance of excessive heat around the Fourth of July.

Thursday: Partly sunny in the morning, then clearing. Not as hot with highs in the mid 80s. Northwest winds around 5 mph.
Thursday Night: Mostly clear. Lows in the lower 60s. North winds around 5 mph.

Friday: Sunny, hot with highs in the mid 80s.
Friday Night: Partly cloudy in the evening, then becoming mostly cloudy. Lows in the mid 60s.

Saturday: Mostly cloudy with a chance of showers. A chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Hot with highs in the upper 80s. Chance of rain 40 percent.
Saturday Night: Showers likely with a chance of thunderstorms. Lows in the lower 70s. Chance of rain 60 percent.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy with a chance of showers in the morning, then partly sunny with showers likely with a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Hot with highs in the upper 80s. Chance of rain 60 percent.
