Search Efforts Underway For Man Who Jumped Into Delaware River

A large search was called after a man jumped.

UPDATE: 77-Year-Old Man Who Jumped In River Remains Missing

A major search operation was underway Tuesday after an older man jumped into the Delaware River from the New Hope-Lambertville Toll Bridge.

The incident occurred around 9:40 a.m. and led to the large response from local, county, and state emergency services.

A Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission official said an older man on the bridge jumped from the span into the river below.

The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission and police and fire companies from Bucks and Hunterdon counties quickly mobilized and began searching the fog-covered river.

As of noon, the man had not been located, sources said.

The search involved boats from Bucks, Hunterdon, and Mercer counties, as well as divers from the Bucks County Special Response Team.

The search effort focused on the river adjacent to New Hope Borough and the City of Lambertville.

Crews were also stationed on the two bridges and along the riverbanks to maintain a lookout for the man.

Bystanders watched as crews searched the river.

The rainfall raised the river’s water level above its usual level, and the current appeared to be swift.
