PennDOT reopened a River Road bridge on Friday after wrapping up repairs that had the bridge closed since December 13, 2023.
The bridge, which carries River Road (Route 32) over the Delaware Canal by Sand Castle Winery in Tinicum Township, was shut down due to damage from a vehicular crash last December.
After months of work, the span has reopened and will carry approximately 2,608 vehicles per day.
PennDOT said the repair work involved the reconstruction of the masonry wingwall and the construction of a new concrete moment slab and barrier. The addition is designed to provide enhanced protection for the bridge, which is 92 years old. The updates also include new guiderail, pavement markings, and signage, aimed at improving safety and navigation for drivers.
The steel and stone-masonry bridge is 46 feet in length and 20 feet in width.
