An Arctic airmass has engulfed the New Hope-Lambertville area and brought with it plummeting temperatures and hazardous road conditions.
An icy chill was forecast as temperatures were expected to fall into the single digits and low teens by Tuesday night.
The National Weather Service predicted overnight temperatures in Bucks and Hunterdon counties to drop as low as 13 degrees, with wind chills potentially reaching a biting 2 degrees.
“Any standing water on untreated roads will freeze and roads will become icy. Please exercise caution when traveling,” forecasters said.
“Untreated water and slush will almost certainly become rock-hard by morning,” they added.
Tuesday afternoon saw the onset of these icy conditions and it led to crashes and spinouts in the area.
Due to the cold and icy conditions, many school districts in the region announced delayed openings for Wednesday.
The hazardous cold follows on the heels of a snowstorm that blanketed the region and left behind 1.5 to 3 inches of snow.
The forecast through Saturday calls for near-freezing daytime temperatures and overnight lows in the teens.
The National Weather Service said there might be another storm with snow on Friday.
