A Doylestown man suffered a serious head injury after diving headfirst into a river near the Lambertville Wing Dam on Sunday.

City of Lambertville police Lt. Robert Brown said the man, who was in his 30s, dived into the river shortly before 4 p.m. and struck a large submerged rock, which resulted in a deep laceration to his head.

At around 3:50 p.m., the Lambertville-New Hope Rescue Squad, Lambertville Fire Department, Hunterdon Medical Center Paramedics, and Lambertville police were called to the scene.

Upon arrival, officers found the injured man. He had managed to walk from the dam to the canal path, Brown said.

Due to the severity of the injury, a New Jersey State Police medivac helicopter was dispatched and landed at Ely Field to transport the man.

The man was airlifted to Capital Health Trauma Center in Trenton
