Music Mountain Theatre in Lambertville striking up the band for ‘Stars and Stripes’

By John Dwyer

With a pandemic upon us and multiple other fears and worries crashing down, Music Mountain Theatre in Lambertville is putting on a July 4 online concert of American patriotic songs and standards that will inspire.

The show has a patriotic focus, taking the best from The Great American Songbook. Ten singers will stir the soul and have you taping your feet with tunes from George M. Cohan to Nat King Cole. All singing responsibly — socially distanced — and there will be pre-recorded performances, as well. The performers are audience favorites from the Music Mountain Theatre Company, along with great talent from their junior division.

When Music Mountain was doing outdoor performances, this show holds the distinction of presented every year in the eight seasons the Open-Air Theatre.

The concert will be presented on Saturday, July 4, at 3 p.m., and tickets are $25 per household. It will be presented per special arrangement with YouTube, and viewing information will be sent prior to the event. It will be the first in a six-week series of Saturday concerts performed live without an in-house audience, in accordance with the State of New Jersey and with Music Mountain’s commitment to their customers.

We at MMT take the safety of our performers, patrons, and staff very seriously and we are taking great measures to ensure a sanitized and healthy environment with the hopes that one day soon we will be able to welcome you back to our theatre and provide you with the entertainment, education and enrichment we are all missing so dearly,” said Ginny Brennan, founding director. “Please join us for a 2020 Summer concert series, and thank you for your continued support.”

Music Mountain Theatre has done incredible work this last season and provides great entertainment at reasonable price, but with the current situation, it is difficult for a non-profit theater to survive. The added value of the theater is the professional working environment that is given to young people who are interested in the performing arts. Their teaching arm is exceptional and gives teens and young adults learning opportunities not afforded elsewhere in the area. Taking students from the classroom to the stage, they have been in the business of honing young talent.

I hope you can support them this weekend and throughout their concert season.
