The New Hope Holiday Parade scheduled for 11 a.m. Sunday has been canceled, the Greater New Hope Chamber of Commerce announced Saturday.
“Due to storms heading our way, we had to make the very difficult and sad decision to cancel the parade,” said Chamber President Terry Meehan in a Facebook post. “Safety is our main concern, and it looks like an icy, rainy snow storm will not be in the best interest of participants or people coming to watch the parade.”
“We thank everyone who has been participating, including our sponsors, volunteers and everyone else who was taking part to make this a success,” she added.
The parade was to have featured floats, fire trucks, and dance troops, and would have proceeded from New Hope-Solebury High School on West Bridge Street to South Main Street.
As of late Saturday, the weather forecast for New Hope called for snow showers and freezing rain on Sunday morning, turning to all rain by 11 a.m.
Great question.
My guess is the flack from some business owners who were not happy having access to stores limited by the morning parade.
True community capitalists.
Why not just postpone the festivities to Dec.8th, 15th or 22nd rather than cancel them?
