City Market, a popular local deli/cafe at 74 N. Main St. in Lambertville, will close next month.
“It is with both sadness and excitement that I made the announcement that I will be retiring and closing the market on Nov. 10,” said owner Donna Dillon in an Oct. 25 Facebook post. “This was not an easy decision, but I have my health and means to enjoy yet another stage of my life and I’m going for it.”
City Market was probably best known as a breakfast destination, and also retailed gourmet deli and grocery items. It was originally created by Lambertville legend Dawn Raia, who also founded Caffe Galleria on North Union Street. She died in March 2014, and the business was sold.
“Thank you for believing in our family and our employees enough to share your lives with us, both the good and the bad,” Dillon wrote. “You have no idea how much your presence was cherished and how much it will be missed.”
So sad for the neighborhood! I am sure everyone hopes it will be replaced with another like market. It has been an important part of the social fabric of that community. It will be missed.
Enjoyed many a breakfast there. Best of luck going forward. Enjoy every moment of your new journey.
