Connie Gering was elected president of New Hope Borough Council in a unanimous vote by her fellow council members at a public meeting of the group Tuesday evening.
She takes the reins from Alison Kingsley, who announced her sudden resignation on Dec. 18. Kingsley said she had enough of the pressures of the position, and needed to step down.
“We got a lot done, but it’s been two exhausting years,” she said.
Gering, a 20-year resident of Riverwoods, where she lives with her husband Ron, has served on council since 2013. She previously served two stints as president of the Greater New Hope Chamber of Commerce, was chairperson of the revitalization committee of New Hope Borough Council, a founding member and co-chair of New Hope for Our Canal, and co-chaired the New Hope Arts and Crafts Festival.
Also at Tuesday’s meeting, Dan Dougherty was named vice president of borough council, and Tina Rettig was appointed president pro tempore.
“The new team is excited to begin working on getting the borough to the next level,” said Gering.
