Lambertville officials on Thursday announced that the city Clerk’s Office will be open for business on Saturday, Dec. 30, and Sunday, Dec. 31, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. to accept payment for 2018 property taxes.
“Given the new limitations on deductions for state and local taxes contained in the tax law recently adopted in Washington, we wanted to give our residents every opportunity to prepay if they view it as an advantage,” explained Lambertville Mayor Dave Del Vecchio.
New Jersey residents are prepaying their property taxes before new deduction caps take effect Jan. 1 as part of the broad GOP tax bill passed last week. N.J. Gov. Christie on Wednesday issued an executive order requiring all municipalities in the state to allow homeowners to prepay 2018 property taxes, as long as payments are postmarked by Sunday, Dec. 31.
Del Vecchio urged residents to consult their own tax preparer or mortgage company about questions on the federal tax consequences of prepayment.
Postpay everyone. They don’t have the people to prosecute everybody.
