ACME in Lambertville Salutes Zsa Zsa with ‘Queen of Outer Space’ Jan. 6

zsa zsaIn a campy tribute to Hungarian-American actress and socialite Zsa Zsa Gabor, ACME Screening Room in Lambertville will show her legendary science fiction classic ‘Queen of Outer Space’ on Friday, Jan. 6. Gabor passed away on Dec. 18 In Los Angeles at age 99.

The film’s plot revolves around the not uncommon sci-fi theme of worlds ruled by women, and is directed by Edward Bernds, of “Three Stooges” and “Bowery Boys” fame.

Capt. Patterson (Eric Fleming) and his space crew (Dave Willock, Patrick Waltz and Paul Birch) crash land on Venus and are captured, according to Wikipedia. They learn the planet is under the dictatorship of cruel Queen Yllana (Laurie Mitchell), a masked woman who has banished all men.

In the palace, the astronauts are aided by a beautiful courtier named Talleah (Zsa Zsa Gabor) and her friends. The women long for the love of men again, and plot to overthrow the evil queen. When Patterson has the opportunity to remove the Queen’s mask, he discovers she has been “horribly disfigured by radiation burns caused by men and their wars.” In a fury, the Queen decides to “destroy Earth and its warlike peoples,” but she dies in the attempt. The Venusians are free again to enjoy the love of men, in this half-baked hunk of schlock.

Whether or not you’re a Grade B sci-fi film buff, or just want to pay tribute to a timeless celebrity and join in the fun and laughter, ACME is the place to be.

“Queen of Outer Space” will be screened at 7 and 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 6. Rated NR, the film is one hour and 20 minutes long. Tickets are $6 for members, and $8 for non-members.
