The New Hope-Solebury High School social studies department is again hosting their annual luncheon to honor local veterans on Friday, Nov. 11, in conjunction with the Veterans Day holiday.

“Any former or current U.S. servicemen and women are heartily invited to join the school staff for a buffet lunch from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.,” according to a school district release. “The pot-luck meal is prepared by staff members, and the luncheon includes a short program to honor the guests.”

Contact Fred Achenbach at (215) 862-2028, ext. 3220, to reserve a spot by Wednesday, Nov. 9.

Veterans Day is observed every year on Nov. 11, and honors the service of all military veterans, while Memorial Day is dedicated to the memory of men and women who gave their lives in the service of our country.

In terms of Veteran’s Day holiday closings, post offices won’t deliver mail, and offices will be shut. Other major shippers like UPS and FedEx will be operating normally.

The nation’s biggest banks will be closed, but individual branches of some corporate chains will be open. Schools and public libraries are not required to close.

And most stores and restaurants will be open, with many offering one-day deals for members of the military.

The New Hope-Solebury luncheon is being held in the high school library at 182 W. Bridge St. in New Hope. There is a ramp for those with special mobility needs located just to the left of the stairway, say organizers.
