Lambertville City Police said they are investigating the theft of a diamond valued at $3,500 from a Vecere Jewelers at 19 Bridge St. on Sunday, Oct. 2.
Police say a store security camera recorded the two suspects as they allegedly shopped for an engagement ring. The video recording shows the duo examining several stones with the store owner, who turned his attention to another customer. Police say that was the moment the female suspect took the stone, and placed it into her coat pocket.
The folks at Vecere say the diamond was 70 points in size, and bears a laser-inscribed Gemological Institute of America identification number on its edge of 6215929880.
Lambertville Police Director Bruce Cocuzza was contacted by the Hunterdon County Crime Stoppers organization, who offered a reward of $250 to anyone providing information that leads to the identification, apprehension and prosecution of the two suspects, say police.
