Dozens of campers and counselors from Camp PALS New Jersey descended on New Hope Tuesday for a scavenger hunt and lunch at Bitter Bob’s BBQ and Comfort Food.
“We’re helping to create genuine, long-term friendships, and we try to keep it going throughout the year,” explained Amanda Sayer, a director for Camp PALS New Jersey.
PALS creates immersive experiences where young adults with Down syndrome and their peers have fun, grow in independence, and build transformative friendships. Their work takes place through week-long sleepaway camps around the country, like this week’s camp at The College of New Jersey in Ewing Townsip.
“Today’s trip is about giving campers life skills they might not normally get, and it gives us exposure and a chance to advocate for the Down syndrome community,” Sayer added.
Campers and counselors alike were obviously having a great time at lunch Tuesday, with umbrella-shaded tables providing welcome relief from the sun, and pulled pork, chicken, french fries, mac ‘n’ cheese, and other goodies disappearing amid laughter and fun.
Bitter Bob’s is located at 110 S. Main St. in New Hope.
