It’s one of those “love it or hate it” kind of things. But with our culinary bent being decidedly declasse, and its inventor widely known in greater New Hope, we are drawn to this sandwich like a moth to the flame.
Drew Abruzzese, long-time owner of the landmark Pineville Tavern, opened Biq Q BBQ on July 27 in Levittown, and is introducing a new sandwich there that he has named after customers of the quick-serve drive-thru located at the corner of Bristol-Oxford Valley and Woodbourne roads.
“The Levittowner” features tender, sliced smoked brisket, Cheez Whiz and crispy onion straws, and is served on an 8-inch Italian People’s Bakery torpedo roll ($6.49).
Better yet, Abruzzese will offer free sandwiches to the first 200 dine-in or takeout customers beginning at noon on Friday, Dec. 11.
Said Abruzzese, “Our smoked brisket is hugely popular, so using it was a no-brainer. And we share our neighbors’ love for Italian People’s Bakery breads. Since Delaware Valley residents love their cheesesteaks, we decided to top it off with Cheez Whiz and our crispy onion straws.”
Big Q BBQ specializes in Midwest barbecue, and features breakfast sandwiches and doughnuts from 7 to 10:30 a.m., and smoked pork, chicken, ribs, brisket, fried chicken and savory side dishes until 9 p.m., seven days a week.
One of the best sandwiches I’ve ever tasted!
Drew Abruzzese? Isn’t he Captain Douchebag from the Rocco reality show? After eating at Pineville Tavern, I now know why Rocco didn’t want Drew associated with his business.
