The New Hope-Solebury School District will hold this month’s School Board Meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the district conference room Tuesday, while New Hope Borough Council will meet at 7:30 in the community room at 125 New St.
Among the new business “action items” up for discussion at the School Board meeting will be the issuance of up to $22 million in bonds. An excerpt from the agenda:
1. It is recommended that the Board of School Directors authorize the incurring of nonelectoral debt by the issuance of general obligation bonds in an aggregate principal amount not to exceed twelve million dollars ($12,000,000); covenanting to pay, and pledging all available taxing power of the local government unit for the payment of, the bonds; establishing a sinking fund and appointing a sinking fund depository; fixing the form, maximum interest rates, maturity dates and other provisions for the payment thereof; authorizing the acceptance of a proposal for the purchase of the bonds; authorizing a filing of required documents with the department of community and economic development; ratifying and directing certain actions of officers; and making certain other covenants and provisions in respect of the bonds.
2. It is recommended that the Board of School Directors authorize the incurring of nonelectoral debt by the issuance of general obligation bonds in an aggregate principal amount not to exceed ten million dollars ($10,000,000); covenanting to pay, and pledging all available taxing power of the local government unit for the payment of, the bonds; establishing a sinking fund and appointing a sinking fund depository; fixing the form, maximum interest rates, maturity dates and other provisions for the payment thereof; authorizing the acceptance of a proposal for the purchase of the bonds; authorizing a filing of required documents with the department of community and economic development; ratifying and directing certain actions of officers; and making certain other covenants and provisions in respect of the bonds.
New Hope’s Borough Council has a few nuggets in its meeting agenda worth the price of Tuesday night’s admission. Among them is a presentation and discussion of a parking proposal by Parkmobile, a company that lets you park your car, and get notifications when your time is nearly up, all from your smart phone. Of course some of these features come at a price, but that amount is difficult to discern from the company’s website, whose main pages offer little in the way of fee disclosure. Likewise, a call to customer service yielded a long wait and no response, as did an email to public relations.
There will also be discussion of building a new skate park in New Hope by Nick Vandenberg, more changes to recruitment and retention policy for adivsory boards, and a review of a Zoning Hearing Board Appeal by Towpath Development for the property located at 18-20 W. Mechanic St.
Of particular interest will be the presentation and discussion of proposals for the visitors center, one of which is being spearheaded by Bucks County Playhouse at the request of Borough Council.
