This November, Town and Country Players, in partnership with Dance Arts Collaborative (DAC), will present the holiday family favorite The Nutcracker.
The Nutcracker tells the story of a little girl, Clara, and her beloved Nutcracker doll through ballet. The Nutcracker comes to life and the two characters have a dream-like adventure in the Land of Sweets. Many will recognize Tchaikovsky’s music as the performers dance their way through this Christmas fairy tale.
DAC brings a contemporary twist to this well-loved classic. Choreographer Reina Faith sets the ballet in the present day. In this version, her dancers perform a contemporary lyrical ballet.
The corps de ballet and the principal roles are filled by DAC’s dancers — children ranging in age from 4 to 17. The role of Clara is danced by two young girls, Olivia Newman and Emma Zeuker. The Nutcracker is danced by 13-year-old Devon Reid.
T&C actors will be performing as the parents in the opening overture. Veteran actor and T&C member Ken Ambs will be taking the stage as Clara’s uncle, Drosselmeyer.
The Nutcracker plays Nov. 14, 15, 21 and 22 at 8 p.m., with matinee performances Nov. 15, 16, 22 and 23 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for children; call (800) 838-3006 or visit T&C’s website.
