LGBT protections in hate crimes bill move forward in PA State House

hatecrimesLGBT protections in hate crimes bill (HB 177) passed out of the Judiciary Committee 19-4 Monday.

“We thank Rep. Brendan Boyle for his tireless work on this issue,” said Ted Martin, executive director of Equalty PA. “We also thank Rep. Ron Marsico for bringing this bill up in committee today so that members were able to vote on it this session.”

With only a few days left in the current legislative session, it is not clear when the bill may reach the full floor.

“Public outcry about the terrible hate crime in Philadelphia made a huge difference, and that’s why the House Judiciary Committee brought this bill up for a vote today,” added Martin, urging voters to contact their representatives about supporting the legislation.
