The offbeat comedy Lie, Cheat & Genuflect takes center stage at Town and Country Players May 9-23. Keith Kerns directs a veteran cast through this fast-paced laugh vehicle written by Billy VanZandt and Jane Millmore.
The plot summary: “Two brothers, who are in debt to a bookie, show up at their estranged grandfather’s will reading. They have a scheme to steal the entire inheritance away from their female cousin whom no one has seen in over 20 years. They must impersonate the cousin by dressing one brother up as a nun; then keep that cousin tied up in the closet, and keep everyone one else at the will reading from finding out.
“But there are a few problems. The two brothers don’t know if they have the right cousin tied up. The cousin has a crying baby whom they’ve lost. And the nun doesn’t know how to genuflect because he’s a Protestant.”
The show features performances by Matthew Thompson as Billy Buckle, Paul Frank as Tom Buckle, David Sharper as Robert Fryburger, Valerie Sharper as Virginia, Laurel Collins as Girl, Stephanie Smith as Jane, Joseph Perignat as Pizza Face Petrillo and Jillian Thacker Ambs as Miss Mackintosh.
