Kehilat HaNahar, the Little Shul by the River in New Hope, will once again feature a talk by local painter and art expert Andre Salz.
“Chagall: The Shtetl and the City” addresses the role of Marc Chagall beyond his now iconic portraits of Eastern European village life.
“I’d like to get rid of some of the ‘shtetl’ clichés that permeate the way we look at Chagall’s work,” Salz says. “He also had experiences in the most important art centers of his time, from Paris to New York.”
Salz will also share personal memories of the artist, who was represented in prewar Germany by Salz’s father.
The program will be held on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m at Kehilat HaNahar, 85 W. Mechanic St. in New Hope. Admission is free. For more info, call (215) 862-1912.
