Local Color, an extended weekend plein air painting event, will be taking place in and around New Hope July 26-29. “Plein air” is a French expression referring to painting outside.
“The artists invited to this inaugural event are all so excited to be part of the first ever Local Color Weekend in New Hope,” said event host and Bucks County Gallery of Fine Art owner Howard Cooperman. “So many others wanted to participate, but there is just not enough wall space to hang all of the art.”
The exhibition is invitational, with 30 participants selected from a group of nationally acclaimed plein air painters by Cooperman. Local New Hope artists are also well represented, including Larry Chestnut, John Ennis, Peter Hunt, Ty Hodanish, Jo-Ann Osnoe, and Anne Kullaf.
The even kicks off at 8 a.m. on Thursday, July 26 as the artists arrive and begin painting landscapes, architecture, river and canal scenes in New Hope. They will continue working through Saturday July 28, when a preview party and cocktail reception with the artists will be hosted at Bucks County Gallery from 5-7 p.m. Reservations: (215) 862-5272.
There’s also a free reception and sale of the plein air work on Sunday, July 29. The show and sale run through August 26. Bucks County Gallery of Fine Art is located at 77 W Bridge St.
