Got Heritage? Understanding and Exploring “Patrimoine” and Preservation in France

“Patrimoine” is translated into English as (cultural) heritage yet patrimoine is used in ways that are much deeper and more complex than our use of the word ‘heritage’. The very word is so deeply engrained in the consciousness of the French that it is applied to everything from cathedrals to chateaux to old mills to cuisine to wine culture to craftsmanship to horseback riding and much more.

Gary will tell the history of preservation in France and explain how exploring patrimoine provides travelers with insights and personal connections that he or she might otherwise miss.

In November 2016 Gary was elected Secretary General of the Association des Journalistes du Patrimoine, the French association of journalists concerned with all things heritage.

Join Gary Lee Kraunt Friday the 24th of February, 6:30 – 8 PM in the Peggy Lewis Gallery of the Lambertville Library, 6 Lilly Street, Lambertville, NJ, while he shares his insights, information and impressions about life in Paris and travel throughout France.
