‘The Weight’ Takes a Load Off at Havana Aug. 13

the weight - new hope free pressThe Weight will celebrate the music and spirit of The Band at Havana New Hope on Saturday, Aug. 13.

But make no mistake: this is no tribute act, say promoters. All members of The Weight are either former members of The Band, or are connected to their legacy.

“This is the most authentic presentation of The Band that the world is ever going to get,” they say.

The Weight features Jim Weider and Randy Ciarlante from The Band, Brian Mitchell of the Levon Helm Band, Marty Grebb, who wrote and recorded with The Band and worked with Rick Danko and Richard Manuel, and Albert Rogers, who played with Levon Helm and Garth Hudson.

The Band coalesced in the early 1960s, began performing with Bob Dylan in 1965, and produced their debut album, “Music from Big Pink,” in 1968. The lineup originally consisted of Rick Danko (bass guitar, double bass, fiddle, vocals), Levon Helm (drums, mandolin, guitar, vocals), Garth Hudson (keyboards, saxophones, trumpet), Richard Manuel (piano, drums, vocals) and Robbie Robertson (guitar, percussion, vocals).

The Weight will perform their own interpretations of timeless hits like “Up On Cripple Creek”, “Rag Mama Rag,” “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down,” “The Weight,” and many others.

Doors open at 6 p.m. at Havana on Aug. 13, and the show begin at 8 p.m. Tickets for reserved tables are $45. Havana New Hope is located at 105 S. Main Street; (215) 862-5501.
