In a landmark ruling on Friday for the gay rights movement, the Supreme Court declared that the U.S. Constitution affords same-sex couples the right to marry.

The 5-4 ruling asserts that the Constitution’s guarantees of due process and equal protection mean that states cannot ban same-sex marriages, clearing the way for same-sex marriages across the nation.

President Barack Obama said, “This ruling is a victory for America. This decision affirms what millions of Americans already believe in their hearts. When all Americans are treated as equal, we are all more free.”

Live celebration of today’s Supreme Court decision continues at this hour at the Studio on West Mechanic Street. Organizers say, “Bring beverages and snacks, wear your pride shirts, and bring your rainbow and equality flags.” Sounds like a plan.
